Adsense advertisers bid on keywords for preferred content-aware ad placements. When people click on my google ads on the right, I get paid a few pennies. (Sometimes a lot of pennies) It's in everybody's (google, the advertisers, the webhost, and the readers) best interests for these ads to be as relevant and intriguing as possible.
